What started out as a 22-year-old college dropout from Poughkeepsie, N.Y. ‘s dream has now become a fashion staple in the pop-rock world.
Inspired by the idea that everyone dreams of being a rock star, Mark Capicotto decided to start his own company after his freelance work as a graphic designer started gaining popularity.
With the help of his mother, Capicotto secured a loan and after his friend suggested the name as a joke, Glamour Kills was born.
His passion for good music and original spin on designs allowed him to build a strong base of endorsers including bands like Hawthorne Heights, All Time Low, and Four Year Strong.
He began touring music festivals to network. At a Bamboozle festival in New Jersey, every piece of merchandise was sold, including the shirts off his employees’ backs.
Although all of his designs are eye-catching, the most famed staple is The Flying Pig, which appeared on a few of his early works and has now become the brand’s mascot.
Glamour Kills Clothing includes stylish shirts, jeans, swimwear and accessories available for both men and women. All items retail for less than $50.
The newly released summer line includes zebra print swimsuits, a Barack Obama-themed tee and a Peta-partnered design.
With its bold neon colors and phrases like “rock and roll ruined my life” and “stay fresh” plastered on its clothing, the brand is definitely for people who are not afraid to stand out in a crowd.
Glamour Kills is sold in Zumiez with the nearest location at The Block in Orange, and other retailers across the nation.
The only Glamour Kills store is located in New York. For more information, and to buy some gear of your own, visit www.glamourkills.com.
