Quarterback Jordan Thomas made history by throwing five touchdown passes, but it was his interception that ended the game for the Dons in a 47-45 loss to L.A. Harbor College Sept. 19.
Thomas went 19-29, threw for 345 yards and tying a Santa Ana College record of five touchdown passes in a game. With less than two minutes and down by two points, Thomas's pass was intercepted by cornerback Darryl Feemster that sealed the win for L.A. Harbor College.
"The corner made a great play," Thomas said.
The Dons fell behind 14-0, but got a lift when they started throwing the ball. Thomas completed a 43-yard touchdown pass to receiver Dakota Hopkins and a 40-yard pass to tight end Mario Pineda all in the first quarter.
With less than four minutes left in the half, Thomas completed a 30-yard pass to sophomore Aaron Martinez giving the Dons a 28-27 halftime lead.
"[Jordan Thomas] is a veteran. He is the leader of the team," Head Coach Geoff Jones said.
On the first drive of the second half, Thomas moved the ball down the field and threw his fourth touchdown pass to receiver Parker Roberts, but the Seahawks tied the game at 35 on their next possession.
Thomas threw his fifth touchdown pass to Hopkins to take the lead 45-42. However that celebration was short-lived as kick returner Jon White returned the ball 100 yards for a touchdown putting the Dons behind 47-45 after a blocked extra point.
A solid defensive stand by the Dons gave the offense one more chance to win the game. Unfortunately the drive ended early when Thomas threw an interception ending SAC's hopes of a last-minute comeback.
"We had a gap, we double clutched, threw it and the gap closed," Jones said.
